Die 56 ausgestellten Wandteppiche wurden von 35 der renommiertesten K\u00fcnstler der letzten 100 Jahre entworfen. Ihre Entstehung erstreckt sich \u00fcber die Zeit vom Ersten Weltkrieg bis zur Gegenwart. Abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass viele dieser Wandteppiche eindeutig ihren urspr\u00fcnglichen Zweck von Luxus, Prestige, kultureller Identit\u00e4t und Machtdemonstration widerspiegeln, zeigen sie insbesondere, wie \u00fcberraschend lebendig das traditionelle Webhandwerk noch ist.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Die Ausstellung enth\u00fcllt einen relativ unbekannten Aspekt in der Welt vieler moderner und zeitgen\u00f6ssischer K\u00fcnstler. Diese textilen Meisterwerke entstanden ausnahmslos in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Webern der franz\u00f6sischen Staatsmanufakturen. Die Kombination aus k\u00fcnstlerischer Finesse und hervorragender Handwerkskunst ist bis heute un\u00fcbertroffen. Von der Vorbereitung des Entwurfs bis zum fertigen Ergebnis dauert die Erstellung eines gro\u00dfformatigen Wandteppichs immer noch Tausende von Arbeitsstunden. Gleichzeitig erfinden sich die Manufakturen im Rahmen der M\u00f6glichkeiten, die die Kombination aus alten Webtechniken und kreativer Innovation bietet, immer wieder neu.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Angesichts der j\u00fcngsten Debatte \u00fcber die Geschlechterrollen findet die Textilkunst derzeit gro\u00dfe Beachtung. Als Akt der Subversion und Ausdruck von Individualit\u00e4t entscheiden sich junge K\u00fcnstlerinnen zunehmend f\u00fcr die Arbeit in diesem sogenannten \u201etypisch weiblichen\u201c und oft abgewerteten Medium.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dies war die urspr\u00fcngliche Einf\u00fchrung f\u00fcr die breite \u00d6ffentlichkeit in diese bemerkenswerte Ausstellung, die ich komplett wiederhole, um ein Gef\u00fchl daf\u00fcr zu vermitteln, wie Textilien in der Kunst heute \u00fcberall von Ausstellungskuratoren neu beachtet werden. F\u00fcr mich war diese Ausstellung, die ich im Juli 2020 besuchte, insofern ein Augen\u00f6ffner, als ich noch nie eine so lange zeitliche Periode des Webens von Wandteppichen &#8211; in extrem gro\u00dfem Format &#8211; in einer Ausstellung gesehen habe! Dar\u00fcber hinaus wurden die meisten Werke nicht oder nur selten einem gr\u00f6\u00dferen Publikum gezeigt, was sie frisch und unerwartet aussehen lie\u00df.<\/p>\n<p>Weil ich in Deutschland lebe, war ich besonders \u00fcberrascht, Wandteppiche des deutschen Malers Werner Peiner zu sehen, die in Frankreich f\u00fcr Nazis wie Hermann G\u00f6ring gewebt wurde, neben einem riesigen Portr\u00e4t nach einem Cartoon von Paul Charlemagne von Marshall P\u00e9tain, der w\u00e4hrend des Zweiten Weltkriegs mit den Nazis zusammengearbeitet hatte . Die oben erw\u00e4hnte Darstellung von Macht und Prestige war<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>in diesen Werken mehr als gegenw\u00e4rtig. Alle autorit\u00e4ren Regime scheinen riesige Wandteppiche zu m\u00f6gen, nicht nur die Nazis, sondern auch die Deutsche Demokratische Republik, Russland und mehr oder weniger alle L\u00e4nder hinter dem ehemaligen Eisernen Vorhang.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nGl\u00fccklicherweise hat diese Art von Auftr\u00e4gen jetzt aufgeh\u00f6rt, und im Fall von Frankreich richteten sich die Auftr\u00e4ge nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg an moderne Maler wie Dufy, Picasso, Vasarely, Picasso, Leger, Sonia Delaunay und viele mehr.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In den 60er bis Ende der 80er Jahre, als die Biennalen von Lausanne die zweidimensionale Tapisseriekunst in skulpturale Textilkunst umwandelten, begannen die franz\u00f6sischen Manufakturen ab den fr\u00fchen 70er Jahren experimentelle Webwerkst\u00e4tten einzurichten, um Erfahrungen mit neuen Materialien oder synthetischen F\u00e4den zu sammeln. Zu einem unkonventionellen Umgang mit Material wurde ermutigt, wobei bestehende Grenzen in Frage gestellt wurden. Zum ersten Mal b\u00fcndelten verschiedene Manufakturen Ressourcen, um das Wandteppich-Triptychon der Bildhauerin Alicia Penalba zu realisieren: Die Techniken der Manufacture des Gobelins und der Manufacture de la Savonnerie wurden kombiniert, um eine reliefartige Version eines Wandbehangs herzustellen. Sie experimentierten auch mit unterschiedlichen St\u00e4rken von Wollf\u00e4den, die zwei Jahrzehnte sp\u00e4ter f\u00fcr Louise Bourgeois Arbeit \u201eSaint S\u00e9bastienne\u201c wieder verwendet wurden.<\/p>\n<p>Obwohl die staatlichen Manufakturen offen f\u00fcr neue Ans\u00e4tze sind, sehen sie es immer noch als ihre Pflicht an, die traditionellen Techniken des Weberhandwerks zu bewahren.
