Das Werk zieht ein Fazit f\u00fcr Riggend grundlegenden Fragen: Wie geht der Mensch mit Zeit und Liebe um und welche Rolle sollte die Kunst in unseren Beziehungen anderen und zur Welt spielen? Das unbekleidete Paar symbolisiert die st\u00e4ndige Erneuerung des Lebens; die stetig brennendere Flamme steht f\u00fcr die Liebe und das ewige Blau f\u00fcr die Zeit, die vereint und trennt. Bis 22 Juli hing der Tapisserie im Eingangsbereich des Regierungshochhauses: An dem Tag z\u00fcndete der rechtsextremistischen Terroris Anders Behring Breivik eine Autobombe vor dem Geb\u00e4ude, bevor er auf der Insel Ut\u00f8ya 69 Teilnehmer eines Sommerlagers der sozialdemokratischen Jugendorganisation erschoss Bei der Explosion wurde die untere rechte Ecke des Wandteppichs besch\u00e4digt und anschlie0\u00dfend restauriert, eine Narbe aber bleibt. photo Beatrijs Sterk<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hannah Ryggen &#8211; Gewebte Manifeste<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Ausstellung in der Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt vom 26. September 2019 bis\u00a0 12. Januar 2020<\/strong><br \/>\nAnl\u00e4\u00dflich der Frankfurter Buchmesse mit Norwegen als Gastland zeigte die Kunsthalle Schirn erstmals eine umfassende Ausstellung dieser schwedisch-norwegischen K\u00fcnstlerin (1894 -1970), die in Malm\u00f6 als Hannah J\u00f6nsson geboren wurde. Bereits auf der Documenta 2012 waren mehrere ihrer Teppiche zu sehen &#8211; eine Ehre, die nur wenigen K\u00fcnstlern zuteil wird, und noch seltener einer Webk\u00fcnstlerin!<\/p>\n<p>Hannah Ryggen war als Malerin ausgebildet, gab das Medium aber zugunsten gro\u00dfformatiger figurativer Tapisserien ab 1923 auf.<br \/>\nTrotz ihrer Vorbildung malte sie niemals Kartons f\u00fcr ihre Tapisserien, sondern wob sie immer ohne Karton.\u00a0In den 50er und 60er Jahren genoss sie gro\u00dfe Bekanntheit in Skandinavien, sowohl in Norwegen, wo sie wegen ihres Mannes, dem Maler Hans Ryggen, 1924 hingezogen war, wie auch in ganz Skandinavien. Nach ihrem Tod 1970 wurde sie dann jedoch mehr und mehr dem Kunsthandwerk zugeordnet, was weder ihrem Selbstverst\u00e4ndnis noch der kunsthistorischen Bedeutung ihres Schaffens gerecht wird.<\/p>\n<p>Das Weben erlaubte ihr in die Arena der Monumentalmalerei einzutreten und sich von der damals vorherrschenden herablassenden Betrachtung weiblicher Malerei zu befreien. Sie wollte die Freiheit haben, jedes Thema zu behandeln, auch politische Themen, die ihr sehr am Herzen lagen. Eine ihrer Tapisserien, ausgestellt im norwegischen Pavillion\u00a0der Pariser Weltausstellung 1937, \u00a0unterlag sogar der Zensur: in &#8220;Etiopia&#8221; (1935) prangerte sie die Besetzung \u00c4thiopiens an doch der Teil des Teppichs, der zeigt wie Mussolinis Kopf\u00a0 von einem \u00e4thiopischen Krieger durchbohrt wird, wurde eingerollt. Viele ihrer Arbeiten befassen sich mit den Ereignissen und politischen Auseinandersetzungen im Europa der 30er und 40er\u00a0 Jahre und spiegeln zugleich die sozialistische \u00dcberzeugung der K\u00fcnstlerin wider. Von ihrem kleinen Bauernhof an der Westk\u00fcste Norwegens, wo sie selbst Schafe z\u00fcchtete und ihre Farben aus Pflanzen herstellte, meldete sie sich zu Wort &#8211; auch nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg, zu Themen wie der deutschen Wiederbewaffnung, der atomaren Aufr\u00fcstung oder des Vietnamkriegs. In unserer Gegenwart, die von zunehmender Ungleichheit, Nationalismus und Populismus gepr\u00e4gt ist, erscheint ihre kompromisslose Arbeit sehr aktuell und wird von den Ausstellungsmachern als ein Aufruf gesehen, sich f\u00fcr die Prinzipien des Humanismus einzusetzen.<\/p>\n<p>Hannah Ryggen wird erst in den letzten Jahren richtig international anerkannt. Nach der Documenta in Kassel 2012\u00a0 wurden ihre Arbeiten 2015\u00a0im Nationalmuseum Oslo ausgestellt, anschliessend 2015\/2016 im Museum f\u00fcr Zeitgen\u00f6ssische Kunst in Malm\u00f6, dann von 2017 bis Februar 2018\u00a0 im Modern Art Oxford und schlie\u00dflich in der hier beschriebenen Frankfurter \u00dcbersichtsausstellung.
